Open Days take place at Marjon, Plymouth, and offer an opportunity to visit us in person during a study day. There are more details about these on our Open Days page.

 

Enquirers sessions take place online for some specific courses in addition to our Open Days. Details for these will be on our Open Days page as spaces become available.

How to Apply

The application process differs between our courses, so once you know which course you would like to apply for, you can download and fill out the relevant form. There are some answers to frequently asked questions below. You can also contact us with any questions at info@spirituscollege.ac.uk.

Once we receive your application paperwork, photograph and your application fee, we will contact your referee and will invite you for a conversation with the tutor(s) to help discern whether the course is right for you at this time.

 

Conversation with course(s) tutor will take place online.

 

Outcome of application

We will write to you to let you know whether we are able to offer you a place on the course.

 

  • If you are not offered a place, your application fee will be refunded.

  • If you are offered a place, you will need to accept the offer in writing.

Spiritus trains ordinands and LLMs / Readers in partnership with local dioceses. Once you have been recommended by your diocese for training with us, please complete the Ordinand and LLM / Reader Registration form.

There is no application fee for ordinand and LLM / Reader training as the cost of the course is covered by the Church of England.

Application Fee

An application fee of £100 is required for all our courses for independent study. The application fee is to cover administrative costs related to your application and we are unable to process your application until we have received this payment.

 

  • If you are not offered a place on the course by the College, your application fee will be refunded.
  • If you withdraw from the application process, or if you are offered a place on the course but decide not to take it up, the application fee will not be refunded.

Frequently asked questions

Our six week Brilliant Basics courses are run entirely online.

 

All of our other courses are a mix of online and in-person teaching. The in-person teaching takes place over seven Study Days in each academic year, six held at Marjon in Plymouth and one held online.

The Introduction to Chaplaincy course takes place entirely in person, over six Saturdays a year, at Marjon in Plymouth.

 

The rest of our courses are taught across the year via six in-person Study Days, one online Study Day, and, for some courses, online lectures and seminars in-between these.

We are only able to accept students who are already based in the U.K. International students will need a visa in place for the entire length of their course of study before applying. We are not able to sponsor study visas for international students.

If you feel that God may be calling you to ordained ministry, the first step is to speak to your local church leader and to the vocations team in your home diocese. There is more information on the Church of England website.

The web page for each course gives details of the experience and qualifications that would usually be expected for those applying for the course, under the heading 'Pre-course requirements'.

 

If you do not have the academic qualifications required, professional experience may be taken into consideration. Your qualifications and experience will be taken into account when we process your application. If we find that you are not eligible for the course you have applied for, your application fee will be refunded.

The application fee is to cover our administrative costs in processing the application. It is refundable only if you are not offered a place on the course that you apply for. If you withdraw from the application process, or if you are offered a place but decide not to accept it, the application fee is not refundable.
